Have You Ever Hit a Pothole?

Have you ever hit a pothole and had a flat? Whether it’s a “literal” pothole on the road or a figurative “pothole” in life, professional career or venture, etc”?

A few days ago, I hit a literal pothole, one morning, on my way into the office and had a flat along with a damaged rim. Needless to say, I wasn’t happy.

Luckily, this happened right behind my house. So, I parked my truck in the field, walked through my back yard, got my other truck and went on to work. Later that afternoon, came home and changed the tire.

This pic represents, not only a damaged rim and flat tire $$$$, but a series of life lessons I learned from a great coach and mentor, my Dad, Omer Thrasher. Thanks Dad!

As a teenager, my Dad “required” that I be able to service my own vehicle in order to drive. As a young man, I wanted to show myself worthy of my Dad’s approval. So, I learned those lessons.

Fast forward to a few days ago and that life lesson came full circle. I was able to change that tire, (even though it had been many, many years, since I had to change a flat), I had the proper tools (one can never have too many tools…), and I felt a sense of accomplishment ( even though, it cost me 2 new tires $$$, a new wheel, and the time invested, etc.).

Life lesson: 1) unexpected “potholes” will happen, 2) you can never have too many tools, never, and 3) you never know when that skill, that a coach or mentor, taught you 38ish+ (uh, hum) years ago will be needed/used.

Remember to motivate someone in a positive way today, stock up on tools, teach those lessons, and watch out for potholes and dragons. #bestlife50
